Shut up, Christian!

In liberal British politics,
you may hold Christian views
as long as you shut up about it.

That was indeed the case with former Liberal Democrat candidate Rob Flello who was forced out of politics. The same happened with Tim Farron who said he was forced out because being Liberal Democrat leader was incompatible with his Christian faith. The irony is, he voted for gay marriage on several occasions. He’ was a very liberal Christian anyway so, no Christian belief whatever is tolerated – no matter how liberal.

A Lib Dem spokesman said Flello was deselected due to his “activities on social media” including “tweeting or re-tweeting items that were well beyond the values of the party…. We believe that our candidates should be held to a higher standard of behaviour than our members, reflect our values and policies, and not bring the party into disrepute,” the spokesman said. “By directly associating himself with comments and causes Mr Flello put himself outside the standards we would expect for a Liberal Democrat candidate.”

Mr Flello was an atheist before converting.

This is a blatant breach of the Equality Act. It would appear that people with sincerely held religious beliefs are not welcome in liberal British politics anymore.

Many Christians increasingly keep their mouths shut for fear of being demonised. That is sad because politics have real-world implications and so does pure Christianity. Christians ought to engage in the political process but never ever at the cost of the will of God. Believing in Jesus Christ and fulfilling the law of God to love our neighbour and to care for those in need remains our Christian priority. That IS Christianity.

Any political party or government that restricts that is evil and should be opposed.
